Interventional radiology

Interventional radiology consultation, Dr Romain Breguet’s specialisation, allows patients who are sent to him for a minimally invasive treatment to be informed and monitored. These interventions, which often avoid the need for surgery, sometimes require specialist equipment  (catheterisation room). They are consequently carried out at the Clinique des Grangettes (Hirslanden group). In spite of this, these interventions are usually carried out as outpatient care and are thus accessible to recipients of basic medical insurance cover (LAMal), as well as patients in receipt of additional insurance. This consultation also allows questions by patients, or their doctors, to be answered concerning their test results, monitoring and therapeutic options for illnesses that fall within the spectrum of interventional radiology.

For example:
– Arterial unblocking of lower limbs (angioplasty, stenting)
– Embolization of pelvic varicose veins for congestion syndrome
– Prostatic embolization of benign hypertrophy
– Laying a PICC line (long-term ambulatory central venous line) or DAVI (port-a-cath.)
– Thermal ablation of tumour (liver, kidney), etc.

Interventional radiology

  • Angioplasty – stenting arteries on lower, upper and visceral limbs
  • Endovascular treatment of aneurysms (splenic/renal arteries)
  • Prostatic embolization of benign hypertrophy
  • Embolization of uterine fibroids
  • Laying a PICC line or DAVI

Percutaneous

  • Percutaneous biopsy for histological diagnosis
  • Thermal ablation (microwaves, radiofrequency or cryotherapy) of kidney/liver tumours/metastases
  • Cholangiography and drainage of bile ducts
  • Laying a PleurX drain for refractory ascites or pleural effusion
